Ausflug zum Rathaus Schöneberg / Trip to Schöneberg Town Hall

Anfang Juni unternahm der Orientierungskurs eine Exkursion ins •Rathaus Schöneberg am John-F.-Kennedy-Platz in Berlin. Diese wurde nach dem ehemaligen amerikanischen Präsidenten benannt, weil der hier bei seinem berühmte Rede 1963 den Satz prägte: ,,Ich bin ein Berliner". Um das Rathaus zu erreichen, brauchte die Gruppe nicht einmal die U-Bahn zu benutzen, da es sich zu Fuß nur zehn Minuten entfernt befindet.

Im Rathaus befindet sich das Bürgeramt. Das ist die Anlaufstelle für alle Bürger, die in diesem Bezirk wohnen, wenn sie Fragen zur Verwaltung haben oder offizielle Papier brauchen.

Frau Behnert vom Rathaus Schöneberg zeigte uns das Bürgeramt. Anschließend beantwortete sie kompetent und freundlich praktische Fragen wie z. B. „Wie kann ich meinen Führerschein übertragen lassen?“, „Welchen Familiennamen bekommen die Kinder in Deutschland, wenn ihre Eltern ihre Namen behalten?“ und „Wie kann ich einen Personalausweis beantragen?“.
Zum Abschluss führte uns Frau Behnert durch das beeindruckende historische Gebäude.

In June, the orientation course went on an excursion to •Schöneberg's City Hall on John F. Kennedy Square in Berlin. The square was named after the former American president, because he coined the phrase, "I am a Berliner," during his famous speech in 1963. Our group didn't need to go far to reach this historic place - it was only ten minutes away by foot.

The local public office is located in the City Hall. This is the place where all citizens who live in the district can go to find out about administrative issues or pick up official forms.

Ms. Behnert, an employee at the City Hall, showed us around the local public office. At the end of the tour, our very well-informed guide answered some practical questions, such as "How can I transfer my (insert country here) driving license to Germany?," "Which surname should I use for my child when the mother and father have kept their maiden names?" or "How do I register for a national ID card?" After the questions and answers, we were shown around the impressive historical building.
