Sommer in Berlin
Sobald die Sonne rauskommt und das Thermometer steigt, verlagern die Berliner ihr Leben nach draußen. Restaurants, Cafés und Kneipen breiten sich auf den Gehwegen aus. Parks und Gärten erwachen zum Leben. Berlin blüht auf! Es ist die Saison der Festivals und Straßenfeste. Vom 21.-24. Mai findet der •Karneval der Kulturen statt und am 19. Juni wird der •Christopher Street Day in Berlin gefeiert. Wie in den Jahren 2006 und 2008 wird es dieses Jahr außerdem wieder eine •Fußball-Fanmeile zur WM geben.
Für Musikfreunde gibt es vom 15.-20. Juli auf dem Gendarmenmarkt das •Classic Open Air, das den historischen Ort in einen Konzertort verwandelt. Auf dem •Bergmannstraßenfest (25-27. Juni) werden 50 Jazzbands auf drei Bühnen zu sehen sein.
Etwas ruhiger geht es auf der •6. Berlin Biennale für Zeitgenössische Kunst zu, die vom 11. Juni bis 8. August Gelegenheit bietet, internationale Künstler und ihre Werke zu bewundern. Auf der •10. Sandsation Competition (6. Juni – 29. August) tragen die besten Sandkünstler der Welt ihren Wettbewerb aus. Am 28. August dann gibt es wieder die allseits beliebte •Lange Nacht der Museen. Einziger Nachteil an der ganzen Sache: Ihr Kalender wird für alle Wochenenden bis September ausgebucht sein.
As soon as the sun starts to shine and the mercury in the thermometer rises, Berliners head outdoors. Restaurants, cafes and bars spill out onto the wide sidewalks; parks and gardens overflow; and the city really puts on a show! There are carnivals, parades and festivals galore, alongside cultural and musical highlights and unique competitions and events. Among the classics are the •Carnival of Cultures (May 21-24), •Christopher Street Day/Gay Pride Parade (June 19) and the return of the •Football Fan Mile following the success of 2006 and 2008.
For music lovers there is • Classic Open Air (July 15-20) at Gendarmenmarkt, winner of the Live Event Award, which transforms this picturesque location into an open air concert space. •Bergmannstraßenfest (June 25-27) is a celebration of Jazz with more than 50 bands performing on three stages.
On the quieter side, the • 6th Berlin Biennial for Contemporary Art (June 11- August 8) highlights international artists and their works, •the 10th Sandsation competition (June 6-August 29) sees the world’s leading sand sculptors battle it out and there’s also the •Long Night of Museums (August 28) which is a major draw for visitors.
